Dedicated Reserves

There is far more to dedicating a World Surfing Reserve site than simply holding a dedication ceremony. Dedication and implementation of a WSR site is conducted in a spirit of collaboration between local communities and World Surfing Reserves. It involves the creation of a Local Stewardship Council (LSC), a Local Stewardship Plan, community outreach and education, as well as the planning of the site’s official dedication. Once a site is dedicated, the LSC is responsible for implementing the Local Stewardship Plan, and managing the reserve on an ongoing basis.
Thus far two sites have been dedicated as World Surfing Reserves including Malibu, California, in the U.S and Ericeira in Portugal. Please click to find more information on the Malibu World Surfing Reserve and the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve.
